You can turn off the navbar pretty easily with a plugin. Comment out the first remove_action line and uncomment the second to just remove the list of links, not the whole thing including feed link.

Thanks, Ben. I might give that a try. Or I might learn to love the navbar. Either way, it's good to know that there's an easy way of disabling it.
